Eight Soupfin Sharks

Over the past century, the global population of Soupfin sharks has declined by nearly 90%. It is no surprise why given their unfortunate name. These sharks have made their way into cuisines and supplements all over the world, from the UK, to China, to the Canary Islands. In 2025, there was an unusually large aggregation of these sharks off of La Jolla, in San Diego, southern California, one of their prime habitats in the U.S. Surrounded by hundreds of these animals slowly cruising through the kelp forests, its hard to find even a sliver of fear for these sharks. How rare it must be to see so many at once, frightful and critically endangered as they are.
