Release of a green sea turtle, Seychelles, 2022
Category - Changemakers
A green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) is released after being tagged and worked up by the Save Our Seas Foundation D’Arros Research Center researchers at St. Joseph Atoll in the Seychelles. The researchers deployed a net to catch shark pups in a shallow seagrass meadow but didn’t turn away the chance to learn from this teenage turtle that swam into the net. The turtle will now be tracked and the information she provides will help make sure the reptiles continue their comeback from the brink of extinction.
