A Mediterranean ‘fried egg jellyfish’ (Cotylorhiza tuberculata) pulsates just beneath the surface during the traditional summer fireworks celebration in Altea, Spain. A vision of the splendour of the human and natural worlds, meeting at the fine line that separates them. Every year in Altea, a popular tourist location in southeast Spain, a spectacular fireworks show marks the peak of the tourist season. This summer, the waters along the coast were infested with unprecedented numbers of jellyfish. The idea for this photo was to capture two different paradigms of beauty – from the natural and human worlds – in the same frame.
