On 6th December 2020 at 7:53 a.m., the Panaro River embankment breach caused the flooding of a very large area of the Po Valley. The town of Nonantola was submerged by at least two meters of water and about 500 inhabitants were displaced. The river had flooded much of the countryside and the view from the drone was able to render the magnitude of the situation in which hundreds of people and animals were momentarily isolated in homes and farms. The damage was estimated at nearly 100 million euros. Flooding phenomena are increasingly frequent in the Po Valley due to recurring extreme climatic events and insufficient land conservation.
