Hopeless

Injured humpback whale, Mexico, 2022

Category - Humanity Versus Nature

Hopeless

This humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae), entangled in fishing lines and buoys, is facing a slow, painful death. With its tail fin now unusable, it will no longer be able to dive properly and therefore feed. The compression exerted by the lines will lacerate its flesh and probably lead to infections. Despite the immense sadness we feel at this scene, it is necessary to show the reality that these animals are facing as a result of man's actions. The irresponsibility of certain practices and the pollution of the oceans are a major threat to biodiversity. While the humpback whale is a protected species that is gradually rebuilding its population throughout the oceans, it is our duty to continue to preserve it and raise public awareness so that positive changes can be made on the ground.
