Amager Bakke is primarily a waste incinerator from which heat is recovered for heating. The plant serves 680,000 people and takes waste from up to 300 lorries every day. It is the world’s cleanest waste-to-energy facility, and , since October 2019, has hosted a recreational area called CopenHill with a ski slope, the world’s highest climbing wall and hiking trails at the top of the building. The construction was designed to “contribute positively to the city, become part of the city, and even become one of the capital’s landmarks”. Climate change is the greatest threat the world is facing. At COP 26 held in November 2021, 197 countries signed the Glasgow Climate Pact to cap greenhouse gas emissions and build resilience in the face of climate change. Renewable energies, new technologies for food production and the circular economy are key solutions for achieving the Green Deal goals.
