Esther Horvath

As a photographer for National Geographic as well as the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, Esther Horvath focuses on documenting climate research in the polar regions. Since 2015, she has dedicated herself to photography in the Arctic and Antarctic where she has covered seventeen scientific expeditions, and behind the scenes stories of climate science. In 2020 she was awarded first prize in the World Press Photo Award in the Environment single category. In 2022, she received the Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography in New York for her work raising awareness about conservation, environmental justice and climate change. Her photography about the largest Arctic Ocean expedition of our history, called MOSAiC, was published by Prestel Publishing under the title Expedition Arktis (German edition) and Into the Arctic Ice (English edition). Esther publishes her work in National Geographic, The New York Times, GEO, Stern, TIME, and Audubon Magazine, among others. She is a Nikon Ambassador, Fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers and a member of The Explorers Club.
